Maximum Speed on all Ocean Shores Fresh Waterways

11.06.010  Maximum speeds all waterways.

A. No person shall operate a vessel, except for vessels exempted by watercraft testing or racing permit, at a speed greater than thirty-five miles per hour on any waterway.
B. A vessel shall not exceed five miles per hour or wake speed when within fifty feet of any:

    1. Safety buoy;
    2. Dock or pier;
    3. Stationary vessel;
    4. Trolling vessel;
    5. Shoreline;
    6. Swimmer or marked swimming area;
    7. Float;
    8. Scuba dive flag;
    9. When going under any bridge.

C. A vessel shall not exceed five miles per hour or wake speed when operating on any of the finger canals off the grand canal, or the Bass Avenue Canal, or those canals known as the “bell canals,” or the cross over canal between Duck Lake and the Grand Canal.

D. A vessel shall not exceed five miles per hour or wake speed when operating on the Grand Canal from its southernmost point to northernmost point.

E. A vessel shall not exceed five miles per hour or wake speed when operating on Duck Lake north of the East Chance a la Mer NE bridge.

11.06.020  Vessel speed—Hours of darkness.

Between a half hour after sunset and one-half hour before sunrise, all vessels will operate at a speed not to exceed fifteen miles per hour, or posted speed whichever is lower. (Ord. 479 § 1 (part), 1989)

11.06.040  Vessel speed—Inclement weather.

Every vessel shall, when operating in fog, mist, falling snow or heavy rainstorm, operate at a moderate speed, having a careful regard to the existing circumstances and conditions and shall be able to stop one-half the distance of available visibility. (Ord. 479 § 1 (part), 1989)
